our mission

The Mission of the Achilles Track Club is to enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics, to promote personal achievement, enhanced self esteem, and the lowering of barriers between people.

Goals
1.  Establish training programs including weekly running activities, long-distance wheelchair workouts and individual coaching.

2.  Encourage disabled athletes to participate in the NYC marathon and marathons throughout the world.

3.  Promote involvement between disabled and non-disabled runners.

4.  Create a worldwide network of chapters that promote local participation by disabled athletes in mainstream events.

5.  Develop programs for disabled children to train and run.

6.  Initiate research with institutions on the effect of running on people with disabilities.

Impact
If the objectives are accomplished and the mission achieved, the image of the disabled will be enhanced, the concept of achievement through self-help will be fostered, the disabled will be healthier, and barriers between the disabled and non-disabled will tend to fall.
