Raise $10,000 or more for Achilles through your corporation and from colleagues to help athletes with disabilites train and run in the 2007 Hope & Possibility 5M, The 2007 ING NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 4, and many other premier running events. Your corporation may sponsor runners from: A. an international chapter, B. within your corporation, C. with specific disabilities, D. a specific individual, etc. Members of the corporate team may train with Achilles members and can run the marathon as untimed official Achilles Running Guides. Achilles will provide T-shirts with XYZ corporate logo, entry into the marathon as a running guide or an Achilles member, photos of all finishers crossing the finish line, and the corporation will be featured on our Web Site and in our Achilles Heel Newsletter.
Mike Cappelli of FINOVA Capital Corp. raised over $5,000 from a night club fundraiser and FINOVA matched the preceeds. Tom Delaney from Chase personally donated several hundred dollars to Achilles and had Chase match the donation through Chase's employee donation matching program. Aer Europa provided 10 free airline tickets from Madrid for our Spanish chapter. Morris Hartstein identified private sector financing of over $2,000 to bring three athletes from Israel to the 1996 NYC Marthon. This initiative has resulted in plans for an Israeli chapter.
Children with disabilities from disadvantaged neighborhoods in public schools and private institutions are encouraged to walk, run, wheel, or swing on crutches through a running course with their adaptive physical education teachers. Achilles provides a structure with incentives. Children receive a T-shirt after attending their fourth practice. The children maintain log books and mark-off their mileage on a virtual marathon course around Manhattan. At the completion of the virtual marathon, the children receive Reeboks. At the end of the school year, medals and trophies are appropriately awarded to all participants. The instructors receive both Reeboks and an Achilles jacket or sweatshirt. Indeed, in two years, our first graduates of this program will be running the NYC Marathon. One year funding ties a
contribution to a specific public school for the school year.
Program funding is for direct support of the children: T-shirts,
running shoes, ATC warm-up jackets/sweatshirts, water bottles, wheelchair
gloves, wheelchair repairs, races, instructors, log books & maps,
medals, trophies, certificates,
etc. SIZE OF PUBLIC
