Special thanks to the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches for giving us such a wonderful welcome last year, we had to come back! Suffolk Construction has committed to taking the lead corporate role to sponsor the Achilles team for all their weekend activities in the Palm Beaches, as well as endow some wheelchairs for local Achilles athletes and wounded vets from the FREEDOM TEAM.  Achilles is delighted to have them on board to support the 'rebuilding' of lives through our distance running rehabilitation program. The weekend will begin with a Thursday night parade into "Clematis by Night" where the Holiday Season will be opened with the Lighting of the Tree!  Achilles Athletes will be honored by Lois Frankel, Mayor of West Palm Beach, on stage! Friday offers area tours, some shopping, maybe golf, and free time, before a night out on the town! After a picnic breakfast at the kids races downtown, Achilles team members will pick up their bib numbers and race gear, then head to a cookout around the pool.

A Palm Beach Fundraiser will be offered on Saturday Night, December 1, to raise money for the FREEDOM TEAM, and the South Florida Chapter of Achilles.  In our first year, we raised $150,000 thanks to the commitment and support of George Cloutier of Amserv,  Robert Garvey of InTech, and numerous other Palm Beach friends and neighbors who came out to welcome the team.

Sunday morning brings an early marathon, starting at 6am.   After the awards ceremony and some lunch, the team will rest up before their final celebration.  The Circumnavigators Club of Palm Beach will finish off the weekend in style with a reception for the team at a private home in Palm Beach.  As a result of learning about the team from last year's marathon, Charles Klotsche, the Palm Beach Club President, has taken on a new project; the Globetrotter Marathons.  He has personally spearheaded the outreach for funding, sponsorship and resources to send a delegation of the Achilles FREEDOM TEAM to the upcoming Moscow Peace Marathon on September 9th.  Following that will be a group to go to the Berlin Marathon, on September 30.  "Let them enjoy global travel for non-military purposes" says Charles.  It's very exciting for all of us, and stemmed from our participation in Palm Beach in 2006. Help us by showing your support for these young men and women who are so courageous and have made sacrifices for our country and our communities. More importantly, they are role models for all of us, exemplifying what makes our country great.
